I have just been asked to use a bit from Ecclesiastes 4 for a marriage sermon by a couple in their 20's.

I always think of Eeeyore when I read Ecclesiates - thistles!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9901815.post-1147711632630415132006-05-15T17:47:00.000+01:002006-05-15T17:47:00.000+01:00Hi Mark,We are doing Eccelsiastes in three Sunday ...Hi Mark,
We are doing Eccelsiastes in three Sunday evenings so I have taken themes rather than chapters. I started with chapter 3 and looked at the key themes in the book - especially the meaning of the word translated vanity or meaningless. yesterday, I looked at the author's view of God and basic response to God centred on chapter 5. Next time, we'll look at Qoheleth's faith. A study guide for our home groups will be on our church website later this week I hope if you're interested.simonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13470335172330595542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9901815.post-1147683459893432112006-05-15T09:57:00.000+01:002006-05-15T09:57:00.000+01:00Simon, this is fascinating, not least because we a...Simon, this is fascinating, not least because we are about to start going through Ecclesiastes on Sunday evenings too.....I'd be intrigued to know how much of it you've taken at any one time? We've decided to go for 2 chapters at a time, a sort of broad brush approach I guess, but homing in on key sections each time. And, yes, I'm expecting it will be a challenge all round!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9901815.post-1147682041680913532006-05-15T09:34:00.000+01:002006-05-15T09:34:00.000+01:00The tendency towards a canon within a canon is so ...The tendency towards a canon within a canon is so widespread, it is staggering. Sometimes, it is planned, but often it is by default, especially when it comes to the ommission of OT texts.

I agree fully with you on the importance of reading Ecclesiaties within the church community. It can be (in my experience) a powerful experience.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
